To My Little Sisters

Dear You,

I want you to pretend you’re my little sister, and I am your older brother. I am the one who talks to you about the girls I want to date and kiss and marry, and you are the one who talks to me about the boys you want to date and kiss and marry. Let me be your honorary older brother.

You are not what you can physically give someone. You are not the sexuality you can show. You are not fifty shades of gray.

You are vibrant. You are passionate. You are special, wanted, and respected. You are not fifty shades.

There is a man who wants you for your intellect. Who wants you for your charm. Who wants you for the way you blush when it gets cold. He will look at you and see beauty. You will look at him and see respect. He will hold your hand because he’s nervous to let go. He will hug you, brush the hair out of your eyes, listen to your funny stories, and remind you that he loves your laugh.

He will love you for you. He will not love you for sex.

He will love you because you are breathing and imperfect and confusing and funny. He will not love you for sex.

To my little sisters who have given everything and had their hearts broken: purity can still be yours. You are not dirty. You are not left out. You are not old. You are not used. Destiny and future and purity are not lost. No, because Christ makes all things new.

Christ gently reminds you of your true identity. He kneels in the sand and traces love with his finger. He holds your hand and finds you in your darkness, wipes the tears from your eyes and the guilt from your past, and leads you into the light of forgiveness. He is there. He is watching. He is cheering for you.

There is a man who follows Christ too. There is a man who does not care about how far you have gone or where you have been. There is no need to worry that he won’t like you because of something you have done in the past. He will see who you are, not what you have done. He will respect you. He will not leave you. You will show him Christ and he will show you Christ. You will love each other independent of previous mistakes or lost loves.

There is a man who will love you for you. He will not love you for sex.

He will love you because you are breathing and imperfect and confusing and funny. He will not love you for sex.

Christ shows you true love and reminds you that you deserve the best. Whether you have or have not gone too far, you deserve the best. Trust me, I’m your older brother.

With Love,

Drew
